This is another one of my kayak inspired river routes. The Nissitissit River is one of the cleanest rivers in New England due to the absence of riverside development. We will explore portions of the abandoned Potanipo railroad grade along the way and spend some time on the Beaver Brook Association trails along the river. As usual, if it is warm there are several opportunities to get wet and cool off.
The adventure begins just past the 111/113 rotary in Pepperell. From Groton Center drive west on Route 119, across the Nashua River, and turn right onto Route 111 (River Road) toward Pepperell. Proceed to the Pepperell Rotary and stay on Route 111 North towards Nashua. Just past the rotary (~100 feet) there is a parking lot on the left with basketball courts and baseball fields. The inset is a satellite photo showing the rotary and the starting point. There is a porta-potty across the baseball field.
