Heald Pond

The Heald Pond route features the hills just west of Pepperell Center. There is a canyon running north and south through the Oak Hill section of Pepperell. Heald Pond occupies the southern end of this canyon. There is also the old Pepperell Springs bottling plant and a mine in the canyon. The town of Pepperell owns an old apple orchard with a small beach on Heald Pond if we need cool off. We will also explore Pepperell Center Historic District if we have time.

Swimming at Heald Pond

The adventure begins just past the 111/113 rotary in Pepperell. From Groton Center drive west on Route 119, across the Nashua River, and turn right onto Route 111 (River Road) toward Pepperell. Proceed to the Pepperell Rotary and stay on Route 111 North towards Nashua. Just past the rotary (~100 feet) there is a parking lot on the left with basketball courts and baseball fields. The inset is a satellite photo showing the rotary and the starting point. There is a porta-potty across the baseball field.
